How to convert minutes to decimal hours

Divide the minutes by 60 and add the result to the hours. 7 hours 45 minutes is 7 + 45 ÷ 60 = 7.75 hours. To go back, multiply the decimal part by 60: 6.4 hours is 6 hours + 0.4 × 60 = 24 minutes, so 6:24.

Worked example: You worked 7:45 at $18 an hour. 45 ÷ 60 = 0.75, so that's 7.75 hours. 7.75 × $18 = $139.50 before taxes. Multiplying 7.45 × $18 instead would give $134.10, short by $5.40.
