How to add hours and minutes
- Add the minutes. Every 60 minutes carries over as 1 hour: 50 + 40 minutes is 90 minutes, which is 1 hour 30 minutes.
- Add the hours, plus any hours you carried over.
- Subtracting? If the minutes go below zero, borrow an hour as 60 minutes.

How do I add hours and minutes together?
Add the minutes, turn every 60 minutes into an hour, then add the hours. 1:45 + 2:30: 45 + 30 = 75 minutes = 1 hour 15 minutes, plus 3 hours = 4:15.
How do I subtract time?
Borrow an hour when you run out of minutes. 5:10 − 2:40: borrow one hour so 5:10 becomes 4:70, then 4:70 − 2:40 = 2:30. In the calculator, tap + on a line to make it a minus line.
Can the total go over 24 hours?
Yes. The total keeps counting (for example 38:15) and also shows days, hours and minutes: 1 day 14 hours 15 minutes.
Can I type 1.5 hours or 1:30?
Yes. The hours box takes whole hours, decimals (1.5) or hours and minutes (1:30). The minutes box takes any number of minutes, even 90.
What is 7 hours 45 minutes in decimal?
7.75 hours, because 45 ÷ 60 = 0.75. The decimal hours calculator converts any time.
